The Arc de Triomphe was raised on Napoleon's orders to honour French military victories and stands on Place Charles de Gaulle, where twelve avenues converge. Beneath the arch lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with its eternal flame. A climb leads to the terrace overlooking the Champs-Élysées.
