Marienplatz is Munich's central square and has been the heart of the old town since 1158. On the square stand the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) with its famous Glockenspiel and the Marian column (Mariensäule). It is the city's main meeting point and the starting point for exploring the pedestrian zone.
