The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish king, though it is used only for state ceremonies. With over 3,000 rooms it is one of the largest palaces in Europe, known for its sumptuous apartments, its treasury and its armoury. The Sabatini Gardens and Plaza de Oriente lie in front of it.
