Schlossberg and Clock Tower (Uhrturm)

Landmarks · Graz
A wooded hill in the middle of the city (473 m) with the remains of a fortress that was never captured - Napoleon's troops demolished it in 1809, and the townspeople paid a ransom to save the Clock Tower and the Bell Tower. The 28 m Clock Tower, with dials more than five metres across, is the symbol of Graz; you reach the top by the Schlossbergbahn funicular, a glass lift through the rock or on foot, with a view over the whole old town.
