The world's oldest social housing complex still in use: banker Jakob Fugger the Rich founded it in 1516 for Augsburg's needy citizens. Behind its walls are 67 houses along lanes and small squares, and residents still pay a symbolic annual rent. Part of the settlement is open to visitors, including a museum apartment.
